Female lead in Superman is…. Ursa!

Yesterday it was revealed that actresses Diane Kruger (“Inglourious Basterds”), Alice Eve (“She’s Out Of My League”) and Rosamund Pike (“Doom”) were up for the female lead in Zack Snyder’s “Superman”. One would naturally assume the character the trio are vying for is Lois Lane; funnily enough, that’s not the case.

Latino Review have discovered the identity of the unspecified female character.

URSA.

Yep, the Kryptonian villainness who, with buddies Zod and Non, gave Superman a hard time in the previous film series (She appeared in “Superman” and “Superman II”) has been promoted. For some reason, Ursa is going to be the film’s female lead and NOT Lois Lane.

One can only assume that – despite Snyder’s denials that the character will appear – General Zod will appear in the film, too. Ursa without Zoda is like.. well, Superman without his red undies.

Whatever the case, Ursa will be present.

Interestingly enough, Ursa is a character that didn’t appear in the “Superman” comics until 2006. Her first appearance in the Super-Universe was on the big screen, as played by Sarah Douglas in “Superman : The Movie”.

So does that mean Lois Lane is not in the movie? Not at all. In fact, Latino Review have also been informed that Lane does indeed appear in the film (though one gets the feeling that the part will be brief).

And what does that mean for the rumoured Lois Lane contenders revealed earlier this week (Rachel McAdams, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Dianna Agron, Malin Akerman, Olivia Wilde etc)? Well, I guess it means the girls are indeed still in the running. It’s possible that Lois will appear in the film’s third act, once Clark (Henry Cavill) returns to the Daily Planet after traveling the Globe, thus it should be reasonably easy and affordable to get a big name to do a days work or so.

Anyway, there you have it : URSA and LOIS will appear in “Superman”.
