Foxx escapes Cage

Oscar Winner on the Marvel comics’ movie

There’s one Marvel comic book movie that hasn’t been in a rush to hit the theatres – considering most superhero flicks are announced and consequently, released, within three weeks of one another this is quite exceptional – and that’s the long-gestating “Luke Cage”.

The favourite for the role of the crime fighter has always been Tyrese Gibson (“The Transformers”), but in recent months, it was revealed that Oscar Winner Jamie Foxx had also had a couple of discussions about the movie.

In an interview with IESB, Foxx says you can now strike his name out of the contention box.

“I don’t think [it will happen],” the actor said. “Sometimes you’ve got windows to do things, and if you do it cool, and if you don’t do it, let it go.”

With John Singleton still attached to direct the movie, it’s likely that Tyrese Gibson –who worked with Singleton on “Baby Boy”, “2 Fast, 2 Furious” and “Four Brothers” – will indeed still get a look-in when the film gets off the grassy nole and closer to a projector. It’s believed a second draft of the script was recently turned into the studio.

The comic book adaptation is about a former gang member who is framed for a crime he didn’t commit. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bullet-proof skin. Using his newfound powers, Luke Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire.
