So a little over a month ago I was waxing lyrical with “G.I Joe : Retaliation” star Adrianne Palicki about the chances of her series “Friday Night Lights” – fans will recall Palicki’s ‘Tyra’ as a favourite on the football-centric drama – hitting the big screen.
While Palicki said she’d absolutely do the movie, if it came to fruition, she was yet to see a script and won’t believe the rumoured project a reality until she sees one.
The interview happened the day the “Veronica Mars” movie snared their funding via the crowd-sourcing site Kickstarter, so of course I mentioned that might be a good avenue for “FNL” head honcho Pete Berg to look into.
Convinced it was a “remarkable” idea, she promised to get the word to Berg.
Today, “Friday Night Lights” executive producer Brian Grazer not only confirmed there’ll “absolutely” be a “Friday Night Lights” movie, but they’ll also be using – wait for it – crowd-sourcing to generate some of the finance for it.
“We made a terrific feature with Pete Berg, turned it into a terrific TV series and will now make a movie from that series,” Grazer said (according to Deadline). “I’m not sure such a thing has been done before.”
Though much of the supporting cast, like Palicki, are seemingly jumping at the bit to do the film, star Kyle Chandler has always been on the fence.
“My general attitude about ‘Friday Night Lights’ is that it was a great movie with Billy Bob Thornton. And it was a great TV show,” Chandler said to MTV last year. “I never had more fun doing anything. […] They ended it at exactly the right time and in exactly the right way.”
Might take some convincing to get ol Coach Taylor back on the field.
