Giannini returning for next Bond movie

Reprising his role as Rene Mathis

In addition to Daniel Craig and Eva Green (who will appear via video- – or something), Giancarlo Giannini says that he too will be reprising his role from “Casino Royale” for the next James Bond instalment, “Tomorrow’s World is Not Enough when the Living Daylights are For Your Eyes Only” (that’s a joke – before all the news wires start shooting that out as gospel).

Bond 22 will see Giannani’s character, Rene Mathis, “revealed to indeed be an ally of Daniel Craig’s James Bond. He will be using his double agent status to assist Bond in reaching the top of the mysterious organization that was behind Le Chiffre and Mr. White”, says CommanderBond.net.

And you can bet your Laverne and Shirley’s that the next film will not be based on the book “Risco”, either. Writers Neil Purvis and Robert Wade say that rumours suggesting so, are – like Pierce Brosnan’s hair color – totally false.

According to Wade, talking to The Trades, that’s “not the case”. Seems they’ll be writing an original story.

And guys, what about Q and Miss Moneypenny appearing in the next one?

“Some people think they should be there and some people know that they shouldn’t be there”, says Wade. “With the way Casino Royale ends, you know there’s still unfinished business for Bond. He may say, “The name’s Bond, James Bond,” but there’s still a lot of stuff churning up inside him. So, if you’re going to explore that, and we’ve got this great actor to do that with, what you don’t want to do is suddenly clamp it down with all these familiar elements that keep your focus off him. He’s the great asset.”

According to Purvis, Moneypenny would be the easier of the two to incorporate. “Q presents more problems. People have all got gadgets now. Other films have lots of gadgets as well… The idea of Q coming back, for the moment, it’s just not a high priority.”

Um, what about Jinx then? Will she be back? (Ouch! Hey! Stop it!!)
