Gordon-Levitt as Falcone in Dark Knight Rises report false?

Update : EW is refuting Variety’s claim that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is playing Alberto Falcone/The Holiday Killer in “The Dark Knight Rises”. The site says the rumour is “100% false” and that we won’t know which character the actor is playing until closer to the film’s release. So… did a trade get had!?

We’ve known for a while now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be reuniting with his “Inception” director Christopher Nolan for “Dark Knight Rises” – what we haven’t been told is who the young actor will be playing?

So, is it Robin?

The Riddler?

Deadshot?

Hugo Stange?

Nope, none of those. It’s in fact – and a few have guessed correctly – Alberto Falcone, son of the mobster Carmine Falcono (Tom Wilkinson). You’ll recall that Falcone senior bit the bullet in “Batman Begins”.

Says Variety, “Alberto Falcone, who is also known as The Holiday Killer, would bring Nolan’s superhero trilogy full-circle. The character fits with the helmer’s stated intentions for continuity and preference to pit the Caped Crusader against “realistic” villains, as opposed to cartoonish nemeses such as Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, who Batman battled in Joel Schumacher’s 1997 misfire “Batman and Robin.”

Alberto Falcone features in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale series’ ”Batman: The Long Halloween” and ”Batman: Dark Victory”. A nonexistent part of the family business, Alberto was ostracized by his father who, despite his young son’s enthusiasm, was determined only to include Mario and Sofia in his crooked activities. It’s been said that Alberto was Carmine’s favourite son and for that reason wanted him to have a normal life. Alberto, unfortunately, wanted anything but.
