Everyone’s favourite medical drama is branching out into another emergency services arena, with a spinoff heading straight to series on ABC. The series will revolve around Seattle firefighters and is set to hit screens in mid-2018.
The show will be written by Stacy McKee, Grey’s exec producer and showrunner. According to Deadline, it will follow a group of heroic firefighters and how they risk their lives in the line of duty – both on and off the clock.
As it is a spinoff, the lead character of the new show is expected to be introduced in the next season of Grey’s, but it will also be interesting to see if other Grey’s characters will cross over.
Channing Dugney, ABC Entertainment president said “no one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff”.
The spinoff is reminiscent of the “Chicago” dramas on NBC, which have seen shows in the realm of medicine, firefighting and cops – all within the same city allowing cross overs.
Grey’s Anatomy keeps going strong, currently in the midst of the thirteenth season. McDreamy wasn’t needed after all.
