Guttenberg : Police Academy reboot being “readied”

“Police Academy” star Steve Guttenberg told his Twitter readers today that a new film in the iconic ’80s comedy series is on the way.

But this isn’t exactly new news. You see, Warner Bros have been developing a reboot of the [late] Jerry Weintraub produced comedy series for over a decade – with numerous writers and filmmakers briefly attaching themselves to the project at separate times only to drop off once the project couldn’t get past Lassard’s podium.

Last we heard, Jeremy Garelick (“The Break-Up”) had been toying with a draft – but that was six years ago.

Guttenberg, who played Mahoney in the first four films in the series, likely doesn’t have any new information than we have –  his comments simply suggest he’s confident that the movie will come to fruition. One day.

A new sequel to another of the comic actor’s classic films, “Three Men and a Baby”, has also been in development hell for several years.
