Has one of the Batman villains just been revealed!?

Is Talia al Ghul the villain – or a villain – of “The Dark Knight Rises”?

it would seem so! At least one of the villains anyway…

You’ll recall that Aussie actress Teresa Palmer (“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”) was set to play the Gotham City rogue in the ill-fated “Justice League of America” movie – that George Miller was set to direct before it was canned a month or so out from filming – and today, when asked by Movieweb about the role, Palmer said she’s had her people let Christopher Nolan know that she’d be keen to play the part in “Dark Knight Rises”.

Back Up. What, you say? Yep, it’d seem Ms Palmer just confirmed that Talia al Ghul, the now-estranged daughter of the supervillain Ra’s al Ghul, is a part of the new Batman movie.

“I’ve definitely put the feelers out there with my agents and that would be something I would be really glad to have happen,” Palmer told the site. “I doubt I would be one of the actresses high up on Nolan’s list. I think they are definitely going after woman with a much bigger profile than I,” she added.

“It is the longest shot in history for sure but I’ve put my name out there with my agents and things. So we’ll see who ends up doing that role. My managers made the phone calls but I’m pretty sure that they will end up going with a big name girl.”

Speculation has been rife what villain/s Nolan is planning in the superhero blockbuster with most predicting Catwoman, The Riddler or Talia al Ghul – or a combination of the three – would be clashing with the cowled one.

Previously..

A couple of weeks ago I let slip that Christopher Nolan had started meeting with actresses in regards to “The Dark Knight Rises”. At the time, I’d heard that there was only one female lead being cast. Now, according to Deadline, there’s actually two main female roles in the new Bat-pic – one a love interest for Bruce Wayne, the other a villain.

Among the actresses that Mike Fleming says are up for one of the two roles in the film : Anne Hathaway, Rachel Weisz, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley and Naomi Watts.

Pretty much the usual suspects. Lively is a funny one – won’t it be a little odd having her cuddle up to Green Lantern in one movie, and then a few months later, have her sharing Bruce Wayne’s silk sheets in Gotham!?

Portman, of course, is being offered anything and everything at the moment – all thanks to the great buzz that “Black Swan” is garnering. There was talk of Fox courting her for the “Alien” prequel at one stage, too. Either way, it sounds like the former “Star Wars” star is going to end up in a prequel sooner rather than later. Interestingly enough, Portman was also an early favourite to play Lois Lane in “Superman : Man of Steel”, which Nolan is producing.

Anne Hathaway was in negotiations to star as ‘The Vulturess’ in “Spider-Man 4″ before Sony pulled the plug on the project. Have Warners gotten their hands on Hathaway’s screen test for the villain character in the abandoned Raimi film? Did they see something they like?

Rachel Weisz, of course, has long been touted as a potential Catwoman. No surprise that she’s on the list.

I’ve also heard a couple of more names being tossed about in relation to the film :

One is Tanit Phoenix, who worked with the studio on “Lost Boys 3 : The Tribe”. Another is Marion Cotillard, who has long been a fan-fave to take on the role of Catwoman. And last but not least, there’s been whispers of Piper Perabo, who Nolan worked with on “The Prestige”, being considered for a role.

So which one of these beauties fits the Bat bill in your opinion?
