Hathaway, De Niro’s The Intern underway

Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro got to work yesterday as production on “The Intern” kicked off in New York.

Nancy Meyers is directing the comedy from her own script about Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old widower (De Niro) who has discovered that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Seizing an opportunity to get back into the workforce, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin (Hathaway).

Rene Russo (“Thor”), Andrew Rannells (“Girls”), Adam DeVine (“Pitch Perfect”), Nat Wolff (“The Fault in Our Stars”), Anders Holm (“Workaholics”), Linda Lavin (“Wanderlust”), Zack Pearlman (“The Inbetweeners”), Reid Scott (“Veep”), newcomer Jason Orley, and Christina Scherer (“Living with Uncle Charlie”) also star in the Warner Bros. film.

Meyers is producing the project with Scott Rudin and Suzanne Farwell. Celia Costas is exec producing.

“The Intern” is scheduled to hit Australian cinemas on September 24, 2015.
