Hot on the heels of her Golden Globe Win for “Les Miserables”, Anne Hathaway is eyeing a return trip to Ye’ Old Times.
Cinema’s Catwoman is fussing about in Bill Shakespeare’s litter box, marking a new film take on “The Taming of the Shrew” (which, of course, was the inspiration for ’90s doozie “Ten Things I Hate About You” starring Hathaway’s “Dark Knight Rises” co-conspirator Joseph Gordon-Levitt) her territory.
While the rest of her hair takes a holiday following a rather hectic year, Hathaway’s cropped do is beseeching immediate employment – particularly now that one of the projects originally on her 2013 to-do list, “Robopocalypse”, from director Steven Spielberg, has been pushed back like a short kid in a mosh pit.
The Wrap doesn’t state who Hathaway, who recently lent her lungs to the upcoming ‘toon “Rio 2”, would be playing in the “Shrew” update but one can only assume she’d be Katherina.
Abi Morgan, the “Shame” scribe who also has the unfortunate privilege of sharing the same name as the town’s resident bitch on the first couple of seasons of “Dawson’s Creek”, is penning the libretto. Debra Hayward and Working Title are producing, with Universal likely to distribute – since they’ve a long-standing relationship with Working Title.
There have been several filmish incarnations of “The Taming of the Shrew”, including the 1967 film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
