Henry Cavill is Superman!

British actor Henry Cavill, best known for his role on TV’s “The Tudors” , has snagged the highly coveted role of Superman/Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s “Superman” (and not Armie Hammer, Jon Hamm, Joe Manganiello, Scott Porter, Tom Welling… or any other oft-rumoured contender). The 27-year-old inherits the role from Brandon Routh, who played the Last son of Krypton in 2006’s “Superman Returns”.

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen,” Snyder said. “I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and ‘S’ shield.”

Cavill will be seen later this year playing Greek warrior Theseus in director Tarsem Singh’s action picture ”Immortals”, and opposite Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver in the thriller ”The Cold Light of Day”.

Cavill had been one of McG’s first choices to play Superman when the filmmaker was briefly attached to direct “Superman Returns”.

No word on Lois Lane yet but with previously rumoured favourites Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman now solid-booked for the next couple of years it’d seem they’re out of the running.

“Superman : Man of Steel” will see young photojournalist Clark Kent traveling the world for the job. Anytime he runs into danger, he tries restrain himself from using his powers. The film will reportedly fix on Kent coming to grips with his Kryptonian heritage.

What do you think of Cavill as Superman? Happy? Pissed?
