Holy Michael Biehn comeback, that Alien movie may actually happen!

A few weeks ago, seemingly out of sheer silly season boredom, “District 9” director Neil Blomkamp uploaded onto his social accounts a bunch of concept drawings for an “Alien” sequel he dreamt up. The new movie would reunite “Aliens” partners-in-war Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and Dwayne Hicks (Michael Biehn) and be set sometime after the events of the previous four “Alien” films. In short, the art was terrific, the concept sounded fantastic, and the internet was a mass of puddled wee.

Nevertheless, we didn’t think there was actually any possibility of the movie getting made.

Get this… it might be.

Blomkamp tells Collider that he’s looking at getting the movie made. That suggests he has spoken to Fox about the idea. It would also suggest it’s a lot further along than a couple of drawings.

“There was a reason. I wanted to make that film. I still may make that film. [Laughs] It may happen”, the “Chappie” helmer tells the site. “But I did it on my own time. Like when Chappie was winding down in post and I had available time, I started to work on it. It was also from talking to Sigourney [Weaver] during the making of this. I mean, I asked her about Alien all the time. Alien and Aliens are my favorite films. So I genuinely wanted to make that film, I came up with the story, I came up with way more art than I put out and I never officially spoke to Fox about it, but Fox wanted to make it. So, I kind of touched on it and I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t know if I was just gonna go leave directing for a whole bunch of time and then I was like, ‘I might as well put some art out.’ But I may make it. I don’t know. That’s where it stands.”

Careful doing cartwheels across the floor… you might crash into Michael Biehn, doing one at the same time.
