Hunger Games‘ writer has already written Disney’s Star Wars : Episode 7 treatment

It may be something playing in this galaxy, but still… it’s far, far, away.

The internet being what it is though, particularly when it comes to upcoming films, the ‘Star Wars’ rumour machine has hit hyper-drive in regards to the many rumours and reports concerning the just-announced new trilogy.

Today, reports have surfaced that Disney employee Michael Arndt, who co-wrote the wonderfully touching and broadly appealing (a good thing, “Star Wars” fans!) “Toy Story 3”, has turned in a 40-50 page treatment for “Star Wars Episode 7”. It’s likely, if Disney likes what they read, that Arndt will then be sent off to write a first draft of the screenplay.

Aside from being one of the writers on the last “Toy Story”, Arndt also won an Oscar for his script for “Little Miss Sunshine” – one of the best comedies of the past decade in many’s opinion. He also wrote the script for “The Hunger Games : Catching Fire”.

What’s interesting is that Arndt was hired months ago, according to Vulture and the other outlets running the story, to join the ‘Star Wars Episode 7’ team. How on earth this has managed to remain a secret until now is beyond me, particularly with the many creative and resourceful ways internet news mongers work.

By all accounts, the general understanding is that the next three films in the “Star Wars” series – set after “Return of the Jedi” – will center around Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and his young family. There’s the good chance that Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford will appear, as Leia and Han respectively, in the film.
