If Sheen’s new TV gig is his swansong, where’s that leave Major League 3?

Charlie Sheen in "Major League"

So Chuck says he’s going to, erm, Chuck it all in after he wraps his latest series?

But if “Anger Management” (debuting at the end of the month on fx) is really Charlie Sheen’s swansong, as he says it is in an interview with the International Business Times, then where does that leave the on-again off-again “Major League” reunion flick he’s been talking to writer/director David S.Ward about doing for the better part of 36 months now?

Is it gone?

Granted, Ward was having trouble convincing Morgan Creek to pony-up for what he calls (despite there technically already being a third, “Major League : Back in the Minors”) “Major League 3”, if only because Sheen, Tom Berenger and Corbin Bernsen aren’t exactly the matinee idols they were in the ’80s. But he’s still determined to do it – each and every month a new bit of info seems to leak about the script, the film’s status, or Sheen reiterates his interest in reprising ‘Wild Thing’ again.

But this latest bit of news, which indicates that Sheen might want to go out with with “Anger Management” being the last thing on his resume, might have put a nail in the coffin of the “Major League” sequel.

Pity, the film would’ve been a hoot.

Ward told us a couple of years back :

“20 years later, and Wild Thing (Sheen) comes out of retirement to work with this 19-year-old player. We’ve actually got three new characters in the new film. And if the new film is popular, [those new characters] could carry the franchise on.”

Sounds like fun to me.

Ward has also told us he wanted Wesley Snipes to come back as Willy Hays Mays, but Sheen apparently had other ideas : He’d promised his good friend Tony Todd the role.

There’s a chance “Anger Management” may score big time and inspire Morgan Creek to arrange for a “Major League 3” to film during the show’s hiatus, but just don’t go lining up yet.

Meantime, here’s a look at Sheen’s new sitcom, which premieres at the end of the month. Is that what he should be going out with, ya think?
