It’s official, Kevin Costner is Jonathan Kent in Superman!

Kevin Costner has officially signed to play Jonathan Kent in Zack Snyder’s (tentatively titled) “Man of Steel”. Deadline says the “Dances with Wolves” and “Field of Dreams” star will join Henry Cavill, who is playing the title role, and Diane Lane, who is playing Martha Kent, his adopted mother in the 2012 release.

Previously….

Update! : Latino Review hear it’s indeed Jonathan Kent that Costner would be playing.

Kevin Costner in Zack Snyder’s ”Superman” movie?

Yeah, I can see that. In fact, I even like that.

Costner gets a bad rap, but seriously, how many grand films and performances has that man given us — ”The Untouchables”, ”Field of Dreams”, ”Dances with Wolves”, “Silverado”.. Ya know, I think the problem with some of those films is that the high-concept plots (particularly in the case of “Waterworld”) somewhat overshadowed Costner’s performance and that results in the “Movie was good. Costner not so much” stance that some people started throwing about. It’s also possible that Costner was simply overexposed there for a while – he was, after all, a bit of a go-to guy for every darn movie at one stage. I’ll admit he was even cast in quite a few films that he wasn’t appropriate for (like, er, ”Robin Hood : Prince of Thieves”).
But seriously, Costner is a great actor. If you’ve only seen seen the Costner of “Waterworld” or “3000 Miles to Graceland” you need to pick up “The Untouchables” or “Dances” tonight. Even “No Way Out”.

But I digress, Deadline says Costner is being courted to star opposite Henry Cavill in the new “Superman” movie.

So, who would Costner be playing in the new “Superman”?

Perry White? Hmmm. Maybe that could work. Though I picture someone a little older…?

Jonathan Kent? Now that seems like the most logical choice. As one of my fellow webmasters just said (in an email conversation we were having), “Makes perfect sense that Elliot Ness would raise Superman. Same as President Bartlet raising Spider-Man.”

Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
