Jai Courtney : From McClane’s kid to John Connor’s pop?

Jai Courtney’s one of several young constituents of muscle sashaying into the “Terminator” casting office next week.

The Aussie actor – and his rival auditioners – is attempting to convince Paramount and director Alan Taylor to let him play Kyle Reese, the character originated by Michael Biehn in 1984’s “The Terminator”, according to Variety.

“A Good Day to Die Hard” star Courtney’s on an audition checklist that also includes Wilson Bethel (“Hart of Dixie”), Thomas Cocquerel (“Anzac Girls”), Boyd Holbrook (”Milk”) and Sam Reid (”Anonymous”).

Personally, name of the names – or faces, since I admittedly haven’t seen a couple of these guys on film yet – much make Levi’s tight, but it’s probably just a purist thing. I guess, deep down, in my ‘that was never gonna happen, Clint?’ folder, I was secretly hoping scribes Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalorgridis might have found a way to have Michael Biehn reprise the role of Reese (say, an alternate timeline had opened up; one in which Reese never died in the original). Keep dreamin’ Les, you’re never going to date Mercedes. Courtney’s probably my least favourite on the list- and not just because he’s done nothing to impress me yet (though the stench from “A Good Day to Die Hard” doesn’t really go away, does it?), but because he doesn’t have that… ‘Reese’ look. To his credit, Anton Yelchin didn’t either and he – equipped with a great impersonation of Biehn – pulled off that part in “Terminator Salvation”.

Guess the job is anyone’s to nab at this stage though.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s back as the T-something for the 2015 film (which, obviously, is the most important thing anyway), with Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor and Jason Clarke as John Connor. No word on Earl Bowen reprising the shrink yet.
