James Gunn might be reinstated for Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Marvel and Disney are reportedly talking about bringing the recently fired James Gunn back on “Guardians of the Galaxy 3”.

The filmmaker was let go from the production after a series of old but unsavoury tweets surfaced. Disney were quick to fire the formerly outspoken Troma-alum from the the film, which he also wrote, and it caused more than a little stir within the fan community who have petitioned heavily to have Gunn back on the job.

Per Deadline :

Sources said the Marvel contingent is trying to persuade Disney to explore a compromise that might bring Gunn back into the fold for Guardians 3, something that clearly would be best for the franchise. There is no clash or strong arming here. I’m told it’s a discussion that comes in the wake of the whole cast declaring their loyalty to Gunn, whose abrupt exit has put a thriving film franchise in a rocky place. One would have to label this 11th hour approach to be a long shot, but the community is talking about it.

The cast of the first two, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista, have stood behind Gunn – with Bautista going so far as to threaten to jump from the film if Gunn isn’t involved. Prior to his axing, Gunn had courted “Star Wars” star Mark Hamill for a role in the third “Guardians” movie.
