Jared Harris Cast in Spielberg’s Lincoln

Another good casting choice when it comes to Spielberg’s upcoming “Lincoln” film. Variety is reporting that “Natural Born Killers” star Jared Harris has been added to the ever-growing cast of the “Lincoln” flick, which has already begun filming.

Harris will play Civil War commander and 18th president of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant.

Daniel Day-Lewis is starring as Lincoln, with Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln.

Based on “Team of Rivals” by Doris Kearns Goodwin, the “Lincoln” screenplay has been written by Tony Kushner and is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg.

The film will focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War. Grant, who later became the 18th President, was the most successful Union general, starting with victories at Shiloh and Vicksburg.

A ton of other actors have already been cast including Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, Jackie Earle Haley and John Hawkes.

“Lincoln” currently has a release date for sometime in December 2012. Harris will next be seen in the December 16 (January 5 in Australia) release of “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”).
