Star of the upcoming Joker feature film Jared Leto is set to flirt with the other side in “Morbius”, a “Spider-man” spin-off based on the villain off the same name. He will star in the film, which is to be helmed by Daniel Espinosa for Sony.
Per the Variety report, Morbius was created in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane for “The Amazing Spider-Man #101.” The character was a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease, with tragic results. He became afflicted with vampiric traits such as fangs and a thirst for blood — and wound up battling Spider-Man.
Leto has been a busy bee, currently touring with his band 30 Seconds to Mars and planning his upcoming films. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing “Morbius” with Lucas Foster. The film was penned by the team of Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama.
