Jason Statham set for Layer Cake 2

Jason Statham will take over Daniel Craig’s role in a sequel to the cult classic “Layer Cake”.

“Viva La Madness”, based on the book of the same name by JJ Connolly, will see the British actor wear dual hats as star and producer.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the “Spy” star said he’s excited to do the movie for many reasons, let of which is he gets to make something back in his native UK.

“JJ Connelly’s written a great book called Viva La Madness, and we’re taking that book and doing something great with it. He’s such a talented writer… the book was incredible. I loved Layer Cake and this is [if anything] better. The chance to work with someone of that calibre, do something back home, it’s the most exciting thing on my plate… We’re doing it next year, and it’s full steam ahead. We’re putting all the finance together, and we’re off and racing.”

“Viva Lad Madness”, which Connolly is adapting, follows the mid-level crook (played by Craig in the first, Statham in the second) as he returns to London and is lured quickly back into the criminal world.
