Jason’s Dead. Paramount cancels Friday the 13th redo!

As luck would have it, fresh off those dire “Rings” reviews, Paramount has canned a couple of their upcoming horror ventures.

First splatter flick to be put on pause is the long-gestating “Friday the 13th” remake (yes, that’d be the third time someone’s trying to restart Sean S.Cunningham’s classic). Word from the trades is that the film may have even been cancelled, with producers Platinum Dunes and director Breck Eisner. “Rings” must have lost Paramount some coin if they’re willing to completely abandon a film that had already entered pre-production and was so close to it’s shoot date.

New Line/Warner get the rights back to “Friday the 13th” in 2018 so it doesn’t look we’ll see another Jason movie with a Paramount logo in front of it now.

It might also be bad news for the Brad Pitt-starring undead jaunt “World War Z 2” (please tell me it’ll get a different title – if it ever happens). That film has been pulled from it’s June 9 2017 release date and is now currently undated. There’s been a grey cloud hanging over this one ever since director J.A Bayona exited the production. If it goes ahead, the film won’t be in theaters before 2019 at the earliest.

“Rings”, released last weekend by Paramount, pulled in less than half of it’s budget in receipts.
