John Krasinski is set to play Jack Ryan in an upcoming Amazon series based on Tom Clancy’s character.

According to Deadline, the series “is not a direct adaptation of the books as were the first Jack Ryan movies but a new contemporary take on the character in his prime as a CIA analyst/operative using the novels as source material.”

The package is set at Amazon through Paramount TV and includes former “Lost” duo of co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Skydance Media.

Exec producers are Roland with Cuse and Lindsey Springer of Carlton Cuse Productions, and Platinum Dunes’ Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form along with the movie franchise’s producer Mace Neufeld.

The character of Jack Ryan debuted in Clancy’s 1984 novel “The Hunt for Red October”, before appearing in numerous Clancy books after that.

In 1990, “The Hunt for Red October” was turned into a movie starring Alec Baldwain as Ryan. Since then, four more Jack Ryan feature films have been made, with Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine also having played the role.
