When JJ Abrams got the “Star Wars : Episode VII” gig, it didn’t take long for the attemptively-humorous among the film fanboy community to hypothesize on which Abrams TV/Movie regulars might pop up in the new film. It’s a fair call – Abrams is loyal to those he’s worked with before, though not especially giving. If anything, he usually throws old friends ‘a bone’ – Greg Grunberg, Amanda Foreman, and Rachel Nichols all ‘briefly’ popping up (in the case of Grunberg, only his voice was heard) in one or both of Abrams’ “Star Trek” films, with Grunberg and Keri Russell also getting a few lines in the third “Mission : Impossible”, which Abrams directed.
So, it’s not ridiculous to say a couple of people from Abrams’ past work might show up in “Star Wars Episode VII” – especially considering the imaginably large cast of characters the movie will possess. While we don’t know whether Greg Grunberg or Keri Russell, Amanda Foreman, Rachel Nichols or Michael Vartan (you’d think he’d throw him one of those crunchy bones!?), and probably won’t until much later – since most of those guys would probably be only playing bit parts, if anything – there is one Abrams’ movie alum who may have gotten a telephone call.
Latino Review have it that Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who worked with Abrams on “Mission : Impossible III”, may have gotten the ‘let’s get back together’ SMS. The British actor, best known for his role as King Henry on “The Tudors”, is apparently as good as a lock for a starring role in the next “Star Wars” movie – starring alongside Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.
The site doesn’t know who Rhys Meyers, next in NBC’s “Dracula”, will be playing… or whether he gets to wield a lightsaber. But I’d say there’s one of two options here – he’s either playing the son of either Luke or Han and Leia, or he’s playing the galaxy’s resident new bad guy.
Hopefully there’s some official casting news on the film soon; fans (including our Clint) are on the verge of popping a vein having had to wait for so long on something solid to come out of the studio or Abrams’ people in relation to casting. While it’s common knowledge Luke, Leia and Han (Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford) are all returning for the Michael Arndt written movie, and probably the two to follow, the studio has actually yet to confirm that. In fact, they haven’t confirmed much at all. Guessing then it’ll be months before they respond to this latest rumour concerning Rhys Meyers.
