Keri Russell in early talks to join Star Wars Episode IX

Keri Russell could be reuniting with J.J. Abrams for “Star Wars Episode IX”, which he is writing and directing. The two last worked together on “Mission Impossible III” in 2006.

According to Variety, Abrams and Lucasfilm execs met with several actresses for the role in the past two months and settled on Russell right before the Fourth of July holiday. Abrams will likely cast two more actors by the time the film begins production at the end of the month. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver are all expected to return.

Abrams directed “The Force Awakens”, and took over “Episode IX” following Colin Trevorrow’s exit – regarding creative differences.

Russell’s character details are unknown at this stage but rumour has it she could be in line to play Mara Jade – Luke’s wife in the comics. But since the connection between the comics and the films has been weak at best – take that with a grain of salt.
