Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Writer Hired by Steven Spielberg for Indiana Jones 5

Huge news just broke recently about the future of the beloved Indiana Jones series. Not only is it continuing for good this time but both Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford are officially returning for the project. But now there’s been another development about the creative team that may leave some concerned.

According to THR, David Koepp, who penned the ill-fated “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” screenplay, is now attached to write “Indiana Jones 5” (official title TBD). And while this is somewhat strange news, it is important to look at some of Koepp’s other work like “Jurassic Park”, “Spider-Man”, and “Mission Impossible”. Also, there is more to the failed fourth entry in the series than what meets the eye. Koepp was going off a story by George Lucas who was intent on having certain elements in the film, even though Spielberg and Ford disagreed.

So it’s unclear if Koepp will create the story himself or work with Spielberg. The sequel isn’t due out until 2019 so there’s quite some time before any cemented decisions need to be made. But from the outset, the trio back together again could have very satisfying outcome. Although Spielberg will be incredibly busy over the next few years until the film’s production begins, not to mention Ford turning 77 years-old on the year of its release, so it should prove to be an interesting collaboration process. But looking at how well a sequel like “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” performed this past year, there’s definitely still light at the end of the tunnel for this one.

“Indiana Jones 5” hits theaters on July 19, 2019.
