Latest on Apes, Expendables, Tintin, X-Men sequels

Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2
Tim Burton’s film never made enough warrant one but good on Rupert Wyatt for managing to generate interest in an “Apes” film franchise again. Fox has just signed up – everyone but Franco!? – to return for a follow-up. “The studio just closed what I’m told is a healthy seven-figure deal for Andy Serkis to reprise his role as lead ape Caesar. Serkis had only signed on for one movie, so his reps had leverage in ensuring that he come back to continue leading the ape takeover in multiple future installments of the series. Director Rupert Wyatt’s original deal came with a sequel option, so he’s locked. So are screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who are producing with Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark.” (Deadline)

X-Men First Class 2
Of course, it won’t be called that; expect something like ”X-Men : Sophomore Year” or ”X-Men Pissed Off”. Simon Kinberg (“Mr & Mrs Smith”), a producer on “First Class”, will also write this time around. There’s talk of Wolverine having a bigger role next time around and the Kennedy Assassination possibly playing a part in the film’s story but nothing official. (Superhero Hype)

Tintin 2
Anthony Horowitz will write the sequel to the well-received “Adventures of Tintin”. The scribe says of the next film, “I can tell you that I think the second film is not going to be Prisoners of the Sun. What it is going to be is still under discussion. I’ve had meetings with the directors and producers and we’ve talked about ideas and action sequences. At the moment I’m trying to put together a story that will please everybody. It’s a very difficult one to do…The good news is if [Prisoners Of The Sun] is not the second film it’ll be the third film so actually I could end up with two Tintins under my belt.” Peter Jackson will direct the next one.
