Gonna need some new Charlie Brown underoos in the editor’s office.
We’ve heard it all before, but this time it seems – maybe, just maybe – there’s a stout chance of a “Twin Peaks” revival being on the cards.
With the recent Blu-ray box-set selling like Audrey’s used undergarments at a fete, and in turn a whole new audience bearing witness to Dale Cooper’s mirror-smashing incident, seems there might be real moves at getting the hit ’90s series back on the air. Or at least a streaming Apple TV box.
On Friday, both David Lynch and Mark Frost, creators of “Twin Peaks” hinted cryptically that fans could be in for a treat.
Lynch and Frost each tweeted the identical message: “Dear Twitter Friends: That gum you like is going to come back in style! #damngoodcoffee”
The tweet serves as a nod to a couple of famous lines from the series, but the fact that Lynch and Frost tweeted the very same thing at the very same time suggests something is in the works. These are two guys who [hardly; Frost may have a couple of times] never tease their fans – in fact, Lynch is always quick to point out he’s [mostly] finished with “Twin Peaks” – so they wouldn’t be wasting 140 characters on bullshit.
It was Cooper himself who said “When two separate events occur simultaneously pertaining to the same object of inquiry we must always pay strict attention!”
.. so we are!
The cast and crew of “Twin Peaks” have always suggested that if the show returned to the air it wouldn’t be a remake.. but a continuation.
“They wouldn’t remake it,” actor Ray Wise told Welcome to Twin Peaks. “If anything was done, it would be 25 years later. It would never be a remake of anything we already did. Maybe you just didn’t mean to use that word, I don’t know. A remake, no, but it would be something new and fresh. David always said the town of “Twin Peaks” is still there; it’s still going on whether we watch it or not. So, who knows what’ll happen in the future? It would be 25 years later, not anything remade.”
Lynch himself said that “I’ve always said I love a continuing story. To love a world and to be able to go deeper and deeper into that world. So there’s always a possibility and you just have to wait and see.”
So what do you think, folks? new cable series? web series? maybe something for Netflix?
