Marshall says they’re restarting latest Pirates of the Caribbean

There’s a fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” on the way – if Johnny Depp likes what he reads.

Rob Marshall, director of the latest sequel “Pirates of the Caribbean : On Stranger Tides”, tells Collider there’s a fifth being written… or rather, rewritten.

“Terry [Rossio] is writing it and he’s working incredibly hard and he did a draft and rethought it all and started working on it again. You want to make sure you are asking the audience to come back to see an exciting adventure and it has to reach that caliber, and if not there’s no reason to do it. I know Johnny feels the same way: He needs to see a script, but he would be happy — if it’s the right script — to put that hat and sword back on.”

Sounds like Marshall’s already committed to directing it.

Meanwhile, the “Chicago” helmer is set to direct “Into the Woods”, a James Lapine written musical based on the stage play of the same name. “Woods” sees classic characters like Snow White and Cinderella uniting for the tale of a baker and his wife who want to have a family — what a baker and his wife have to do with Grimm’s fairy tales I don’t know; maybe the baker couldn’t impregnate his wife until he got his loaf baked? And maybe the loaf couldn’t be baked until the witch planning to roast Hansel and Gretel freed up the Oven?

Just thinking aloud.
