Melissa McCarthy : I’ll do it myself, then!

After struggling to entice a director to do it for them, actress Melissa McCarthy (“This is 40”) and husband/producing-partner Ben Falcone will co-direct the New Line comedy “Tammy”. McCarthy headlines the film, a comedy about “a women who after losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, hits the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother.”

Beth McCarthy-Miller was originally set to direct. When she fell out, the studio approached “When Harry, Met Sally” helmer Rob Reiner, but he passed.

Variety
says New Line weren’t willing to lose being in the ‘McCarthy business’, seeing as she’s one of the most popular new acts around, so agreed to let the husband-and-wife duo direct the film themselves.
