Miles Teller scores role of Goose’s son in Top Gun: Maverick

Miles Teller will feel the need…joining the cast of the much anticipated “Top Gun: Maverick”, the sequel to the 1986 classic.

The versatile actor, known for his roles in “Thank You For Your Service”, “Divergent” and the “Footloose” remake, will be playing the role of Goose’s son, and Maverick’s new protege. In the original film, Anthony Edwards played the co-pilot to Tom Cruise’s Maverick.

Teller bet Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult to the role, after the three met with Cruise for a read last month.

“Top Gun: Maverick” will be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters, and will explore the end of the era of dogfighting. Val Kilmer will reprise his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, and the film is set to release on July 12, 2019.

Joe Kosinski is directing the film. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the first film, will produce with Cruise and Skydance CEO David Ellison. News from Variety.
