Mission Impossible 6 Set to Begin Production in Fall of 2016

Before Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation‘s release last year, there were probably many who were ready to write off as yet another entry in an action franchise that’s gone on too long. But Tom Cruise, writer-director Christopher McQuarrie, and newcomer Rebecca Ferguson created easily on of the best blockbusters of 2015. It featured amazing practical stunts on planes, busy highways, and even an opera house. So, it’s only natural that the stylish series continues as quickly as possible with those high standards in mind.

The first film hit theaters in 1996, followed by three more installments before Rogue Nation. 2011’s Ghost Protocol, directed by Brad Bird, was one of the best received, setting a new standard for how the franchise moved forward. While the director’s have mostly come and gone, leaving their own signature stamps, Tom Cruise as happily reprised his role as the team leader of the IMF, Ethan Hunt. But the action star should be pleased that McQuarrie will be returning for the sixth film, along with stars Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and possibly Jeremy Renner.

Courtesy of Comic Book, who were reporting during the Paramount presentation at CinemaCon 2016, Tom Cruise stated via taped message that Mission: Impossible 6 would begin production in fall of this year. Cruise’s video was mostly meant to reveal some new footage about his other upcoming sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, but he was able to slip in a few details about M:I6. Cruise mentioned that McQuarrie has written a “very entertaining and compelling story” which involve some very “big stunts” for the actor.

What could come next for the franchise is exciting, especially since Cruise will always be there to commit himself fully to any aspect of production, as well having a steady hand behind the camera. It’s hard to fathom stunts that could be even wilder than what audiences have seen before but, sure enough, Cruise will always find a way. With production beginning soon, we could be seeing M:I6 near the end of 2017.
