More cast in Doctor Dolittle alongside Robert Downey Jr.

“The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle” is set to be a star-studded affair, with more familiar faces joining Robert Downey Jr. in the live-action film. Antonio Banderas has joined the cast, and Michael Sheen is said to be in final talks to come aboard, reports Deadline.  Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes and fellow Spidey-star to Downey Jr. Tom Holland have come aboard to voice three of the critters in the film.

The Hollywood Reporter also has the scoop that Selena Gomez has joined the project in a voice role.

Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde and Annette Bening are also aboard the project, which is set to begin production in London late February, for a release date of April 12, 2019. Downer Jr. will be playing the title role, with Banderas set to play lead nemesis to Dolittle, a pirate named Rassouli, and Sheen to play Mudfly.

The film will be based on the 1920’s children’s books by Hugh Lofting, and will also be a launchpad for Downey Jr. in a new film franchise – quite a transition from Iron Man!  Stephen Gaghan is directing.
