Morgan Freeman is set to star in “Beautiful Jim Key”, a historical horse story based on Mim Eichler Rivas’ book of the same name.
The pic follows Dr. William Key, a performer who entertains the masses with his horse, Beautiful Jim Key. The horse, whose known as the ‘world’s smartest horse’, was brought into the performing business after Dr. William Key, a former slave, was relegated to carnivals.
Robert Rodat will helm the pic, making his directorial debut on the project which will see him team with producer Mark Gordon for the third time. The pair previously worked together on “The Patriot” and “Saving Private Ryan”.
Producing with Gordon is Lori McCreary of Revelations Entertainment, Cargo Entertainment’s Marina Grasic and Rogers Hartmann.
Production is due to get underway early next year.
