Hey Guys, just a Quick Mailbag today – I’m absolutely snowed under on something at the moment, and haven’t come up for air in a few days (or more so, weeks), but I couldn’t bear not interacting with my lovely, devoted, only slightly-stalkerish readers.
Q. Hey Clint,
I thought since Stallone had been in the country, you would have interviewed him? Seems strange that he’s not on Australia’s top movie website?? What gives? – Pat
A. Unfortunately, we weren’t invited to interview Stallone. A tad disappointing. And I know one of the stateside studios involved in the film is also a bit concerned that we didn’t get a look-in, but that’s life…. On the internet.

Q.Re : Caffeinated Clint’s rant on the ‘best’ Batman. You know, each of the characters to play bats so far has really captured at least one part of the character. Val Kilmer played on the “tortured” part very well, I thought, but it seemed a little too often. Of the “original 3” actors, I think I liked Val the best. Keaton was a good mix of Bruce Wayne/Batman, but to me he didn’t really look the part. Clooney captured the billionaire playboy aspect of the part very well, but he wasn’t a very brooding batman, if you know what I mean. I think Christian Bale and Batman Begins really did the best job though of showing what a tortured individual Bruce Wayne is, and yet how he’s forced to wear a smile a fake a persona that the public NEEDS to see Bruce Wayne as. And get some sleep now and then! I hear burning the morning oil is almost as effective! – Sean
A. How do you know I’m not sleeping? Was that YOU with the binoculars? Thanks for the thoughts on Batman; it’s funny… we wouldn’t be even having this conversation if Adam West had got his way – he tried to convince Warner Bros that he should be playing Batman in the 1989 feature. For about five minutes there, they considered it.
Q. Hey Clint – Thanks for the Batman video on Katie as Rachel Dawes. That’s among my favorites scenes in that movie. I feel so much better. No I’m lying I don’t feel better about Maggie and the recast Warner Bros. decision. I was at Barnes and Nobles today and just saw the latest Bazzaar magazine with Katie on the cover and she’s all grown up. What a beautiful woman. Ethan Hunt is lucky but Bruce Wayne is missing out.

A. Gibbs, Meryl Streep is the only confirmed cast member for the “Mamma Mia” movie. As for “Oceans 13”, do Ellen Barkin and Celine Dion, take your fancy?

Q.Hey – dunno if you guys are interested in short films at all, but it looks like mine might lead to… well, better things, hopefully – it got me an agent in CAA, and a manager in 3Arts entertainment (producers of I am Legend). The film is called “The Silent City” and I wrote/directed and edited it, as well as doing most of the visual effects myself – it features actor Cillian Murphy in a small role. you can see the film on Youtube or alternately there’s a high def version (as well as a breakdown of the visual effects) on my site at my site. Anyway, thought someone there *might* be interested. – Ruairí Robinson

Q. Hi Clint, I was wondering if you can shed any light on the news that ‘Rogue’ will only get a very limited release in the U.S. on Apr. 20th. I’m a big fan of Michael Vartan, and I live in the New Orleans area. If Rogue will be released to only 500 theatres, I doubt if it would come here. We\’re probably not a big enough market any more. There hasn’t been a trailer or even a poster to be seen. Have the Weinstein’s lost interest in this movie? What does Greg McLean think of this? Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! – Jodi
A. Here’s Greg McLean to answer your question: “2350 screens across USA on April 20th. I don’t think this is limited release and hope Jodi enjoys the picture! Trailers and poster should be around in next few weeks – so look out for these!”
Q.your writeup on Sigourney Weaver (2/16/07). Love her. However, I’m extremely disappointed that you left off her best movie (in my opinion), “Alien”. This was her signature film and her performance was superb as was the entirety of the film, which in my opinion was better than Aliens. That said, I loved Aliens as well and again her performance was excellent. I just think the first one portrayed greater scenes of shock, horror and fear and the casting was brilliant. – Bonnie
A. It was a choice between including “Alien” and “Aliens”, and quite frankly, I’m a bigger fan of both her work – and the film itself – in “Aliens”. That, to me, was a cinematic orgasm.

Q.Re: Highlander: The Source. To our faithful fans. Any version of Highlander: The Source that is currently available is not the final producers’ version of the film. Peter Davis and Bill Panzer of Davis/Panzer Productions, the producers, in conjunction with Lionsgate Entertainment, are presently editing and remixing the film. This final cut will be delivered to Lionsgate on or about March 15, 2007. Lionsgate will be releasing the film in September, 2007. Peter Davis, Davis-Panzer Productions. – Peter Davis

Q.Drowning Mona was Danny DeVito’s worse movie? Ouch! It doesn’t pay for some people to die. It is one of my favourites because “nothing is as nothing seems”. What do I mean by that? Well, there were so many interesting clues and well, all hell broke out in Kerplank or wherever? Was Chevy Chase fired by E H??? Was that cute as a button Peurto Rican gal fired by E H? Well, if the movie was a flop perhaps that was the reason. Will who? Cubbys was a nice touch I thought? And my favourite composer was in the movie…the elusive Amy Millan…the “hi goodbye girl herself” E H?
Why did E H fire Clint and replace him with you know who? E H was on a rampage or so they say firing everyone and all. Did Lou Dobbs come to do an exclusive interview on E H, the old “she’s running around and giving the ax to everyone” as seen on the telly. Ah Lou darling…ah…the ax thing Lou…ah..it really wasn’t a real ax Lou!!! Did E H fire Lou Dobbs as well? And what contribution did she do in the movie besides getting that Janis Joplin off of her or his or her ass? She washed Murf’s car for him. Then, amazingly because there were some Jehovah’s witnesses acting when they should have been out preaching the gospel big preachers from New York came to disfellowship Jamie Lee in a private preaching session. “But, I’m Catholic.” Close enough!!!Clint needs to open his ears and read between the lines. Were not all of E H movies full of clues like that was a real sheriff and those were real guns? Not that Peter Dobson was that dull of an actor, well yeah, if you see him that is is someone else isn’t being him these days. Now I feel so blue I must go out and buy myself more E H movies like Breakfast at Tiffany’s. My daughter, Carrie, says that Holly was a prostitute, “read the book mom”. “Lou Lou May Burn was never a prostitute.” “Burn not Barn”, People simply cannot read scripts Clint!!! – Ethel

I am hoping to be one of the 16 filmmakers that will compete for a one million dollar development deal on their new reality show, “On the Lot.”
