Netflix acquires international rights to Amar Akbar & Tony

British comedy “Amar Akbar & Tony” has found a new home on Netflix, and has just launched. The British-Asian coming-of-age comedy is definitely a hidden gem, and is the first Western film to feature a turbaned Sikh in the lead.

“Amar Akbar & Tony”, which is being distributed internationally through Kino Lober, has been described as a diverse comedy that sees a Sikh, a Muslim and an Irish Catholic take stock of their lives in contemporary London.

Director Atul Malhotra brings the unique tone of British Independent cinema with that of Bollywood narrative, as “Amar Akbar & Tony” fall in love with multicultural London.

Malhotra’s other credits include “Ross Kemp on Guns”, “The Big Experiment”, “The People’s Book of Records”, “Breaking Magic” and “Cardshark”. He’s also recognised in the UK for directing award winning documentary and TV productions.

The film stars Karen David (“Once Upon a Time”, “Galavant”), Rez Kempton (“The Mummy”), Laura Aikman (“Keith Lemon, The Movie”), Martin Delaney (“Now You See Me 2”), and Sam Vincenti (“Da Vinci’s Demons”), with co-stars Amrita Acharia (“Game of Thrones”), Meera Syal (“Goodness Gracious Me”, Goldy Notay (“Sex and the City 2”)and Nina Wadia (“Bend it Like Beckham”).
