Netflix are in talks with “Wet Hot American Summer” creators David Wain and Michael Showalter to bring the 2001 comedy to the small screen, says THR.
The prequel series would feature the characters from the movie – who were played by the likes of Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce and was Bradley Cooper – as high-school aged characters.
Wain and Showalter would pen the script for the project. Universal haven’t yet gotten involved.
In 2012, Showalter told GeekingOut he was working on a follow-up to the movie. “We are working on a prequel; it’s six months to a year earlier than when the original movie was — except the actors playing those characters are 10 years older”.
Upon release, “Wet Hot American Summer” grossed only $300,000 theatrically, but a quiet success on home video – winning itself a seat at the ‘cult classics’ table.
