Two blockbusters “Alien : Paradise Lost” and “Thor : Ragnarok” are set to shoot in Australia, the Australian Government announced yesterday.
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said Canberra will provide a combined US$34 million (A$47 million) to attract the two productions. Bishop said that they will return some US$217 million (A$300 million) to the Australian economy and create some 3,000 jobs.
“Attracting major films made here will be a significant boost for our economy, for our industrial base, and for linking Australia in innumerable ways to our ever-globalizing world,” Bishop said.
“Thor : Ragnarok”, which New Zealander Taika Waititi was reported to be in talks to helm, will again star Chris Hemsworth in the title role. Recent rumours suggest Mark Ruffalo will also be onboard, reprising his Bruce Banner/Incredible Hulk.
“Thor : Ragnarok” is due in theaters 2017.
“Alien : Paradise Lost”, to be produced and directed by Ridley Scott, is the sequel to 2012’s “Prometheus”. The movie is expected to see Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace reprise their roles from the earlier film.
