New Gremlins is a sequel!

That “Gremlins” reboot we’ve been hearing about? More sequel than anything – at least according to series star Zach Galligan.

Appearing at London’s Prince Charles Cinema this week, the “Gremlins” and “Gremlins 2 : The New Batch” actor said he’s heard that the new film will be more or less a direct sequel to the original movies. Chris Columbus, who wrote the original and is producing the new one, is insistent on “Gremlins 3” being just that – the third chapter in the “Gremlins” series, he said.

“It’s not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape, or form. Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade. So the only thing they will be – and apparently are going to be – doing is something along the lines of like Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later.”

Galligan, who played Billy Peltzer in the films, said he didn’t know whether he’d be involved or not but expects he might get a call – since his character was still standing at the end of the last movie.

Columbus, who wasn’t involved in “Gremlins 2”, was always reluctant to to do a new film in the series because every pitch he heard essentially erased the events of the first movie and started afresh – and he didn’t want that, he wants to keep canon canon.
