New Little Women adaptation in the works with Streep, Gerwig, Ronan, Stone & more onboard

Meryl Streep and Emma Stone are also in talks to star in a new version of “Little Women” for “Lady Bird” helmer Greta Gerwig.

Gerwig’s adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott classic, set up with Columbia Pictures, also has its eye on Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet, who both starred in Gerwig’s solo directorial debut, and Florence Pugh.

“Little Women” follows teenage sisters Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg and their mother in Civil War-era Massachusetts as they navigate first love and their first holiday without their father, a traveling minister.

The last bigscreen take on “Little Women”, released in 1994, starred Winona Ryder, Christian Bale, Susan Sarandon and Kirsten Dunst.

Gerwig was previously attached to write the screenplay only but has been upped to helmer.
