New writer sought for Star Wars spin-off

Gary Whitta has exited the upcoming “Star Wars” spin-off, according to THR.

Whitta has been working with director Gareth Edwards on the project – said to fix on a group of space pirates (with one rumoured to be a young Han Solo) for about a year – but the trade says they’ve both agreed to split up the band. Seems amicable though, and Whitta already has a new project (as he says on Twitter), Fox’s “Starlight”.

You might recall that Oscar Winning Screenwriter Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine”) was hired and consequently hired from “Star Wars : The Force Awakens” when J.J Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over screenplay duties, so departures in the “Star Wars” writing department isn’t anything new.
