A new animated “Scooby Doo!” movie will hit theaters September 21, 2018.
The previous two “Scooby” movies, both written by “Guardians of the Galaxy” alum James Gunn, were live-action films (featuring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini).
Tony Cervone (“Scooby Doo : Mystery Incorporated”) will direct the new movie, the first in a string of new bigscreen films to feature some of the classic Hanna-Barbera characters. As previously reported, an animated “Jetsons” movie is also in the works.
Says WB exec Greg Silverman. “Like countless fans, I have always loved the Hanna-Barbera cast of characters. As one of their most famous brand ambassadors, Scooby-Doo will take the lead in re-introducing this pantheon of enduringly popular animated stars on a grand scale with an exciting new movie.”
Matt Lieberman, who is also penning that aforesaid “Jetsons” movie (as well as a reboot of “Short Circuit”), is on writing duties.
There was talk last year of another live-action “Scooby Doo!” movie but that seems to have fallen by the wayside, WB likely concentrating instead of this animated take.
