I imagine even Nicolas Cage’s manager has thrown his papers in the air and given up at this stage. I know I have.
Emmett Furla, the production-company responsible for the birth of 50 Cent’s producing career, has managed to retain the services of their misdirected “Frozen Ground” lead for another, no doubt, gem “I Am Wrath”.
Emmett Furla, known for shooting films on the cheap in tax-friendly states like New Orleans with big-names like Bruce Willis and Robert De Niro, haven’t done anything especially interesting or admirable since kicking-off their punch-em-out-quick enterprise. They usually work with rapper cum movie-mogul 50 Cent on these flicks. And I imagine 50 is involved in this one, too.
And while you’ve got to hand it to Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson for how quickly and how far he’s gotten in the film industry, especially thanks to the deep-pocketed Emmett and Furla, you also can’t help but feel a little miffed at the rhyming rap-man for dragging all these big-names (likely be way of giant carrots on a stick) into the shoddy things he/they are producing. Money sucks, sometimes.
Emmett Furla/Jackson collaborations thus far – believe me, there’ll be more – include “Righteous Kill” with De Niro and Pacino, “Freelancers” with De Niro and Forest Whitaker, “Set Up” with Bruce Willis, and the upcoming “Fire with Fire” with Willis [again]. Naturally, ’50’ also insists on playing an acting role in each of the films he helps finance, too. Can’t blame him, I suppose… he’s paying to further his own career.
Anyway, this latest one, “I Am Wrath” will reportedly be helmed by another one-time great, William Friedkin!
In all fairness, Friedkin’s been struggling for a few years now to get back into the game – though his latest “Killer Joe” is apparently top-notch, it’s not exactly commercial, so it’s not like the offers are going to start pouring in – so maybe doing a big Nicolas Cage actioner isn’t such a bad move for him at this point. And if there’s anything Friedkin can direct, as fans of “To Live and Die in L.A” will attest to, it’s the action-thriller. But let’s see.
Deadline provided the following synopsis of the film :
Following the murder of his wife, Stanley (Cage) finds that the police are unable to catch the perpetrators. He uncovers a thick plot of police corruption and realizes that he will have to find justice on his own. As he awakens to the level of degradation of the people sworn to serve and protect, we get a little Rage in the Cage as he becomes a vigilante out to destroy those who abuse their power.
I’ll remain hopeful. It is Friedkin.
