“Sex and the City” prequel “The Carrie Diaries” is a go at the CW, says The Hollywood Reporter.
“Gossip Girl’s” Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are producing, with former “SATC” scribe Amy B. Harris likely adapting the series and serving as showrunner.
The network heard the pitch on Friday and obviously took to the idea.

The first book in Bushnell’s origin story was published last year and, like ”Sex and the City”, is told from Carrie’s point of view. It follows the aspiring writer through her relationship with Sebastian Kydd and rivalry with popular girl Donna LaDonna.
The second novel in the series, Summer and the City: A Carrie Diaries Book, was published in April and revolves around Carrie’s first trip to New York.
“SATC” creator Michael Patrick King won’t be involved in the show and said last month that he wasn’t interested in even watching it.
“My Carrie Bradshaw started at 33, and I took her to 43. I didn’t even want to know who Carrie Bradshaw’s parents were because I thought she only existed in Manhattan,” he said. “So for me, the idea of going backwards and making her less evolved … is something that I don’t imagine doing,” he added.

Although there are no deals currently in place, talks are in preliminary stages for Warner Bros TV to produce, with “Gossip Girl” executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage in discussions to sign onto the project. Amy Harris – a former “Sex and the City” writer/producer who is now writing for “Gossip Girl” – is likely to pen the adaptation.
With the series focusing on Carrie’s final year in a New-England high school, the CW seems the obvious choice of broadcasting partner as it has been home to two major teen blockbusters in recent years – “The OC” and “Gossip Girl”.
Author Candace Bushnell is also expected to be involved as a producer, though “Sex and the City” creator Darren Star will not be involved and Sarah Jessica Parker has no connection to “The Carrie Diaries” at present.
