Neill Blomkamp, director of the forthcoming “Robocop Returns”, wants the star of the original 1987 movie to reprise his role in the recently-announced sequel.
The “District 9” filmmaker confirmed his choice for the title role via a Twitter discussion with a fan :

71-year-old Weller played Robocop/Alex Murphy in the original two films.
Original writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner produce the new movie, with Justin Rhodes doing a re-write of their original “Robocop” sequel script.
