Idris Elba is in final talks to join Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden and Ian McKellen in “Cats”, the movie adaptation of the hit Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.
Tom Hooper directs the film, the story of a tribe of felines called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as “the Jellicle choice” and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. Elba would play Macavity, a master criminal.
The feature will shoot in the UK later this year under the Universal and Working Title banner.
“Cats” is the fourth-longest running show in Broadway history.
The film is due Dec. 20, 2019.
