Reese Witherspoon set for Legally Blonde 3

With the original films still blowing heat on the home video market, and the musical selling more than a few tickets, no surprise to hear MGM is pushing on with another “Legally Blonde” movie. What is surprising though is that the next film – as opposed to the last, a direct-to-video spin-off called “Legally Blondes” – will see Reese Witherspoon reprise Elle Woods!

The “Big Little Lies” star will produce and headline a second sequel to Aussie director Robert Luketic’s smash-hit 2001 comedy, reports Deadline. To be penned by the original’s writers, Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith, “Legally Blonde 3” will likely tap into the topic of female empowerment.

Witherspoon headlined two “Legally Blonde” films, with the last ”Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde” released in 2003.

The actress and producer, whose upcoming films include “Tinker Bell” and “Wish List”, told James Corden last month that “I think it would be kind of cool to see her, 15 years later”, in relation to reprising Elle Woods. “Like, what’s she doing now? … But I need a good idea.”
