Rogen talks upcoming projects

Seth Rogen deserves his success. I’ve interviewed him twice now, and found him to be one of the nicest, most unpretentious, and most knowledgeable guys I’ve ever sat across a table from. More so, he’s funny – damn funny – and more adaptable than a universal remote.

Had a chat to Rogen today about the upcoming “The Pineapple Express” – my review won’t be up for a while – and we briefly discussed some of his upcoming projects – including, of course, “The Green Hornet”.

Here’s a brief run-down.

The Green Hornet

“We’re looking for a director currently. The studio says they want to make it – they want to shoot it around February or March. They want it to come out in June of 2010. It looks like it’s gonna happen! We just have to find a director – we’re meeting with some people.”

Rogen says he didn’t realize that his “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” director Kevin Smith had worked on a “Green Hornet” movie before he started worked on the latter.

“I didn’t realize until I started working on it that he had written like a whole draft – and was gonna direct it. It just all fell apart. He told me his idea, I told him my idea – they could not be more different. I think we’ve got a little more freedom than he did – with the material and so on – which, you know, is great for us! [Laughs]”

Danny McBride, Rogen’s co-star in “Pineapple Express”, said he’ll have to brush up on his Asian accent if he wants to convince Rogen that he’s the right guy to play Kato.

The Pineapple Express 2

Rogen says they’re definitely considering a sequel. “They’re been wanting us to do a sequel to Superbad for so long – but we’ve held off. We eventually said No. But this one, it’s not a precious coming-of-age story like Superbad, it’s a weed action-movie and if it did well, and they gave us like $50 million dollars (as opposed to the $26M we got for this one) we could benefit from that.”

Zack and Miri make a Porno

“It’s great. I think it’s a really sweet romantic-comedy. It’s obviously really filthy… but it’s a great romantic movie.”

Rogen, who says he’ll be heading to Comic Con to promote “Zack and Miri”, loved working with Kevin Smith.

“He’s great. I really like Kevin. I’ve looked up to him for a really long time. It was great to work with him.”

Untitled Judd Apatow Comedy

Australia’s Eric Bana will be joining Rogen for the next Judd Apatow comedy –

“There’s a role in the movie for an actor that you normally wouldn’t imagine acting with our crew. We just said ‘What about Eric Bana? He’s supposed to be really funny’. He is really hilarious in “Chopper” – not that it’s a comedy – and I’m just really excited to meet him.”

As for the rest of the cast? “Right now it’s me, Adam Sandler, Eric Bana, Leslie Mann, Jonah [Hill] from Superbad, and Jason Schwartzmann. I’ve been friends with Schwartzmann for almost ten years now. I’m really excited to work with those guys now.” (Speaking of, Cinema Blend has some inside details on this film today!)
