Rugrats is getting a TV revival and live-action movie

Nickelodeon favourite “Rugrats” is coming back to entertain a new generation – or perhaps just the ones that enjoyed them before – with a 26-episode order and live-action film in development with Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures.

The original animated began in 1991 and ran for 13 seasons, scoring a number of awards, and three movies were released in 1998, (“The Rugrats Movie”), 2000 (“Rugrats in Paris: The Movie”) and 2003 (“Rugrats Go Wild” – a crossover with fellow Klasky Csupo series “The Wild Thornberries”). For some reason the world of babies has fascinated many, cementing “Rugrats” as one of the most popular Nickelodeon series’.

The show centered around Tommy, Chuckie, Lil & Phil, Anjelica and many more little rugrats and their adventures and imaginations.

“Rugrats is hands-down one of the most celebrated cartoons in TV history, and we are thrilled for a whole new audience to meet these iconic characters in brand-new adventures,” said Sarah Levy, COO, Viacom Media Networks; and Interim President, Nickelodeon. “What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can’t wait for today’s kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie and pals.”
