A few days ago, to equal amounts delight and disgust, “Alien Covenant” director Ridley Scott mentioned that he’s still got half-a-dozen or so more “Alien” movies in the works. And because of those plans, it sounded unlikely we’d ever see Ripley – or a sequel to the original series – again.
While it’s still looking that way, Scott has dialled back on his comments about doing a whole bunch more sequels to “Prometheus” and “Covenant”.
Scott tells Yahoo UK this week that he’s not so sure of how many more he’ll do:
“I don’t know. [I’ll make] maybe two more [films], or maybe one more, I don’t know.”
The filmmaker, who also said the failure of “Prometheus” is partially his fault for not listening to fans (“They wanted to see more of the original [monster] and I thought he was definitely cooked, with an orange in his mouth. So I thought: ‘Wow, OK, I’m wrong’”) is again facing some backlash – though not as much – for “Alien Covenant”, which has been given a battering by quite a few high ranking critics. Is it possible the critical reception to “Covenant” is what’s caused Scott to rethink his plans for all those sequels?
