Filmmaker, and friend, David R. Ellis tragically passed away today.
Ellis, a veteran stuntman who had transitioned into film-making a few years back with “Final Destination 2” but more famously helmed 2006’s “Snakes on a Plane”, was found dead in his hotel room in South Africa. Ellis had relocated to the country for six months to work on his adaptation of the book “Kite”, set to star Samuel L.Jackson. Cause of death is unknown at this point.
Ellis, whose other credits include “Asylum”, “The Final Destination”, “Cellular” and “Shark Night”, is survived by his wife and daughter.
Ellis, who I had the pleasure of speaking to many times, was a gracious, amiable and very level-headed guy. He also seemed to be someone who really enjoyed life – spending much of his off-time surfing – and just making the moment of every minute we have on this Earth.
